Can photonic glass be used to colorize solar PVs?
This study addresses the challenge of colorizing solar PVs using a strategy based on short-range correlated dielectric microspheres, i.e., photonic glass. This approach aims to have a low impact on power conversion efficiency (PCE) and be mass-producible at a low cost.
Can photonic glass be deposited on silicon solar cells?
By a fast spray coating process of colloidal monodisperse ZnS microspheres, a photonic glass layer could be easily deposited on silicon solar cells, enabling them to have structural colors. Through varying microsphere sizes, solar cells with different colors are achieved, showing low PCE loss compared to normal black cells.
How is CIGS ink made?
The synthesis of CIGS ink is done from a chemical bath containing the ions of its constituents, followed by the addition of a strong reducing agent and continuous, vigorous stirring. An analysis of X-ray diffraction verified the existence of the CIGS crystal structure.
What can photonic glass enable?
Through theoretical studies, first we demonstrate that the photonic glass self-assembled by high-index microspheres could enable both colored solar cells and modules, with easily variable colors and negligible parasitic absorption.
What is a good particle size for inkjet printing?
The average particle size was ~350 nm with a range from 180 to 670 nm. For most inkjet printers, a particle size of less than 1000 nm is preferred so that the ink particles do not block the nozzle’s output. Therefore, the obtained ink can be considered suitable for its use in inkjet printing.
Can CIGS ink be printed at room temperature?
Ink-jet printing is considered as a simple and affordable process to deposite thin films, which require materials in the ink (particulate dispersion) form. Thus, the presented work focuses on synthesizing a printable CIGS ink using a solution processing route at room temperature without a vacuum environment.
